What a portfolio holds today, and the split you have chosen for it. See how much to sell and buy, or how much fresh money brings it back to target without selling.
Example figures are filled in. Replace them with the client’s own. The target split is chosen by you and your client; this tool does not suggest one.

How the calculator works
An investor chooses a split between asset classes. Markets then move each class by a different amount, and the actual split drifts. Rebalancing is moving money so the portfolio is back at the split that was chosen. This calculator does that arithmetic three ways.
Buy & sell. Every class is brought to its target today. The total stays the same, so the rupees sold always equal the rupees bought.
Fresh money only, exact. Nothing is sold. The calculator finds the smallest new amount that lands every class on its target, and how to split it. The class furthest above its target decides how much is needed.
Fresh money only, an amount you have. Type the amount available. It is split across the classes that are short of target, in proportion to how short each one is, so no class is pushed past its target.
Worked example, using the figures filled in above: ₹7,00,000 in equity, ₹2,50,000 in debt and ₹50,000 in gold is 70% / 25% / 5% of ₹10,00,000. Against a chosen 60% / 30% / 10%, buy & sell means selling ₹1,00,000 of equity and buying ₹50,000 each of debt and gold. Without selling, ₹1,66,667 of fresh money — ₹1,00,000 to debt and ₹66,667 to gold — reaches the target exactly. With only ₹1,00,000 available, ₹57,143 goes to debt and ₹42,857 to gold, and the split becomes 63.6% / 27.9% / 8.4%.
Before selling anything: selling mutual fund units is a redemption, and a switch between schemes is treated the same way. Either can attract capital gains tax and an exit load, depending on the fund type and how long the units were held. This calculator does not include either. For tax questions, consult a Chartered Accountant.
A tolerance band is how far a class may drift before it is rebalanced, in percentage points. With a ±5 band and a 60% equity target, equity anywhere from 55% to 65% is within the band. The band, like the target, is your choice.
An investor picks a split between asset classes, for example a share for equity, a share for debt and a share for gold. Markets then move each class by a different amount, so the actual split drifts away from the one chosen. Rebalancing is moving money so the portfolio is back at the chosen split.
Can I rebalance without selling anything?
Often, yes. New money, whether a lump sum or the next few SIP instalments, can be put only into the classes that are below target. The calculator shows how much fresh money brings every class exactly back to target, and how any amount you have is split across the classes that are short. A class with a 0% target that holds money cannot reach 0% without selling.
Does the calculator include tax and exit load?
No. Selling mutual fund units is a redemption and a switch between schemes is treated the same way, so either can attract capital gains tax and an exit load. Both depend on the type of fund and how long the units were held. Check them before selling; for tax questions, consult a Chartered Accountant.
Does Aumsetu suggest the target split?
No. The target split is typed in by the user. It is decided by the investor with their distributor or adviser, based on their goals, time horizon and comfort with risk. The calculator only does the arithmetic of getting from the current split to the chosen one.
What is a tolerance band?
A band is how far a class may drift from its target before it is rebalanced, measured in percentage points. With a 5-point band and a 60% equity target, equity between 55% and 65% counts as within the band. You pick the band, including 0 for an exact rebalance.
Is anything I type saved?
No. The figures stay in this browser tab and are gone when it is closed. Nothing is sent to Aumsetu. Only the firm details in the branding box are kept, on this device, so the PDF can carry them.
