What your SIP actually did

Every SIP calculator asks you for a rate, and almost everyone types 12%. The answer is a smooth curve that has never happened to anybody — it cannot fall, it has no bad year, and it never spends fourteen months worth less than the money you put in. This replays your instalments against the scheme's real published NAV, and keeps the bad months in.

Questions people ask

Is this what I would actually have received?

It is what the scheme's NAV would have given you, and no more than that. It follows the Growth option and counts NAV movement only — it does not model exit loads, stamp duty, the ₹ you would have paid in capital gains tax on selling, or IDCW payouts if you held that option instead. Your account statement will differ, and the gap is those things.

Why show how far it fell? I only care about the return.

Because the return is what you get if you stay, and the fall is what decides whether you stay. Somebody who knows in advance that this scheme once spent a year worth less than the money paid into it is far less likely to stop the SIP when it happens again. That figure is on this page with the same prominence as the return, on purpose.

What is XIRR, and why not just the percentage gain?

An SIP puts money in at many different times, so each instalment has been invested for a different length. The plain percentage gain treats last month's instalment as though it had been there for ten years. XIRR is the single annual rate that makes all of those dates add up correctly. Both are shown here; the plain one is the larger and the less honest.

Does this mean the scheme will do the same again?

No, and nothing here should be read that way. This is a record of one past stretch of one scheme. A different start month gives a different answer from the same scheme — try it and see how much it moves.

Is my data safe?

Nothing you type is sent to us. The scheme you pick is used to fetch its public NAV history; the amount, the date and the result stay in your browser and are gone when you close the tab. There is no sign-up and no account.

Aumsetu publishes scheme facts and does not rate, rank or recommend any scheme. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Read all scheme related documents carefully.
